Basil Hummus

andrea bonilla basil hummusBasil is one of those delicious garden herbs that anyone can easily grow, especially during the summer.

This year, especially post the July heatwave, my basil plant grew like a weed and I was at a loss as to what to do with all that fresh basil.

Most people know the typical basil recipes: caprese salad and pesto. However, I wanted to try something different and so I started experimenting in the kitchen and created a great basil hummus recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces of cooked chick peas
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 big handfuls of basil
  • the juice of one lime

Directions:

  • Place all ingredients in a food processor & blend until it’s all of a smooth consistency.
  • Voila, you have basil hummus!

The best part about this recipe is the flexibility! You can have it with a steak, on a sandwich or a wrap, with some chips as a dip, or even with pasta… and it’s completely healthy!
